Secretariat

The Secretariat assists the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians in fulfilling its mandate. It ensures the Committee receives timely access to relevant, classified information and strategic and expert advice in the exercise of Committee reviews. It assists in the development of Committee reports and provides support to ensure compliance with security requirements.

The Executive Director of the Secretariat is appointed by the Governor in Council and has the rank and powers of a deputy head of a department. The Secretariat has an annual budget of approximately $3.5 million and funding for 10 full time employees. Secretariat employees are appointed in accordance with the Public Service Employment Act. They have experience working across the various departments and agencies of the federal government, including with the security and intelligence community.
